NAD/ was choosed to project the Stand that represents Angola in this year's edition of ITU Telecom World, one of the most important communications event in the world. This year's edition was in Geneva, Switzerland.

The stand created to the Angolan participation in the ITU Telecom World 2011 pretends to highlight the angolan presence in the event using its architectonical expressions. The stand is inspired by elements such as the national values, innovation, visibility, technologies and sustainability. Two bodies L-shaped define a central room and a VIP area at the ground level and two exhibition spaces at the higher level.

The connection between the two levels is made through two spaces like auditoriums that allow the visitors to stay there and shows promotional videos in the several multimedia screens. The exhibition rooms are subdivided in several spaces through fixed furniture, allowing the division of the several expositors as well as the two meeting rooms.

The highly recognizable architectonical shape of the stand is emphasized by the main facade, that is  composed by vertical metallic props covered in LEDs that reproduce colors identifying the angolan flag. In the centre of the stand there is a cube suspended where promotional spots of the several sponsors are projected.

In an environment where everybody wants to stand out, the ITU stand defines itself in a simple formality but with great visual impact.

I think that we are all benefited to accompany his life by his work. Truly a visionary and a creative genius. His keynotes presentations has showed the globe this amazing human being. An inspiring mentor that changed the world by his brain. So rest in peace Steve Jobs. Here is a quote from him:

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to… love what you do. — Your time is limited. Don't waste it living someone else's life"

Remembering Steve Jobs here

/ I Remember

/ NAD/ Research and Design Centre

/ 9.30 AM - 1.00 PM/ 2.00 PM - 6.30 PM (from Monday to Friday)

There are different ways to define or remember our visit to places that, for some reason, are meaningful to us.

This is part of my collection from past years, from the several travels I've made and the way that I keep them.

Posters always have a special meaning for a designer. They are the summary of graphic design in a space with a very well-defined boundary.

There are no pages. Just one sheet. A screen. Something to stop and look. Something that perpetuates an event. A place. A moment.

This is my collection.

Nuno Abreu, Designer.

Many months ago, we had a dream.

But we didn't just imagine it: we sought solutions, we defined what we wanted it to be, we prepared the project and now we can finally stop. Because today we can say: NAD/ Research and Design Centre is finally open.

The project that began with NAD/ Design Café, but that goes far beyond it, opened on Tuesday, June 28th, one of its most important parts. A space that intends to be a lab of creative and artistic activities - placed in NAD’s business activity -, but also hopes to welcome Évora’s people, that can enjoy the several offers of this new place.

Photography, video and sound studios, exhibitions, lectures, talks or simply to spend some good quality time. A space willing to be visited.

NAD/ Research and Design Centre / Largo da Misericórdia, doors 4, 5 and 6 / 700-932 Évora / PORTUGAL

This is an awesome day for NAD/.
It is the day that we gave a huge step to be different, to be better.

JUN 30th, NAD/Design Café / 7 PM

Each day there are more and more countries, regions or cities looking for international acknowledgement.

They compete to win the organization of the most important world events, to have the best universities and companies, to be the best tourist destination or the place where everybody wants to live.

They struggle to show up in the global world and to become more attractive places, increasing their reputation and attracting new talents and new investments.

As a discipline, Marketing answers to this new challenge, with each local evolving into a sociocultural construction. More and more the public and private organisms want to create their territorial brands, in an exercise to agglomerate knowledge, identity, communication, innovation and entrepreneurship.

In Portugal, the territorial marketing is already part of some regions or associations, where they gather entrepreneurs and citizens that want to reaffirm the ambitions and values of their space.

We invited four professionals to explain us this new way of marketing and also its connections with other branches like design, economics or politics.

António Azevedo

Universidade do Minho and iMarke researcher and author of the book “City Marketing - My Place in XXI”

Maria João Vasconcelos

Brand Adviser of the agency Mola Activism, responsible for the new territorial brands of Sagres and Viana do Castelo.

Nuno Abreu

NAD/ Administrator and Creative Director, responsible for creating Baía de Luanda.

Patrícia Soares da Costa

Designer and brand adviser of Bloom Agency (Madrid), resposible for the project “Does the big Apple have a big heart?”.

Évora - Lisbon - Zurich - Rathausbrucke bridge - Gestaltung museum - Freitag - Heidi Weber museum (by Le Corbusier) - Basel - Germany - Vitra Campus - Vitra Atelier - Vitra Design Museum - Vitra Factory Buildings - Dome - Vitrahaus - Basel - Peddy paper - Marktplatz - Tinguely fountain - Cathedral - Hammering Man - Herzog & De Meuron building - Reno river - Schifflande - Zurich - Lisbon - Évora

Many kilometres walked, a lot of worn soles and, believe it or not, a lot of sun. The land of the Alps received NAD/ for four days, in a tour that went far beyond of the simple tasting of the local cheese and chocolate. We visited museums, crossed cities and envied some aspects of the swiss day-to-day.

NAD/ has invaded and infiltrated in the Helvetic republic in a trip that analysed every detail. We even visited tatoo shops... to do what?! Well, that depends on how far can your imagination go.

52 people, 2 cities, 2 countries, 96 hours, sprains, indispositions, animation, laughs, photographies, waking up early (too early), going to sleep late (moderately late) and now a lot of accumulated fatigue. But we are ready for the next one!

May 26th, NAD/Design Café / 7 PM

To illustrate is to combine several verbs, such as explain, represent, interpret, illustrate, decorate and imagine. The illustrator can be a reality communicator or a creator of imaginary worlds. It all depends on the role given to illustration: a communication media complementary to journalism or advertising, that helps to clarify contents, or a visual artistic concept that lives for itself.

With the new technologies, illustration expanded its limits and became a visual discipline, more and more experimental and dynamic. Its communication supports are many - beyond paper, today illustration easily appears in a 3D animation movie, in a smartphone app or even in a wall in our houses.

We invited three successful illustrators to talk about their projects and explain where they find their inspiration, what techniques do they use, what’s their motivation and what message do they wish to communicate.

André Letria is an children's illustrator who believes that the world of his tiny public shouldn’t always be pink, but, as in reality, composed by lights and shadows.

Diogo Machado is a conceptual illustrator who created a planet and a tribe of funny robots that have the mission to spread colors in our world and save it from monotony.

The Wall Printers are a designers group who took illustration to the walls of public and private spaces, using a new impression technique - trompe l’oeil - to communicate new sensations.

The UNESCO World Heritage award and a kind of Portugal "museum-city" status represent a pride and an obstacle for Evora's graphic design. Although, a design studio managed to become the biggest company inside Évora's walls in only two years.

Also despite that, there are in the city communication studios since the 80s, mainly due to Rui Belo, founder of Milideias. We talked with both studios and we tried to understand what are the elements that transformed Évora in one of the capitals of the portuguese graphic design, excluding the main centres, like Lisboa and Porto. Hi everyone.
This is it. It was born another son of NAD/ in Dubai Media City.
The office is ready for this new phase, and we hope to feed this challenging path. It is time to load and setup our energy. It is time to stabilize our methods and brains to start with the right foot, hopefully for very long time. So here is some pictures of the environment. I will send some more photos soon as possible. Best regards.

Ena, até parece o lobby de um hotel em NY :) tem um ar muito clean e espero, inspirador! Bom trabalho!
