As true admirer of everything that as to do with FREITAG, I was really excited with the release of the new REFERENCE Bag Collection.

In the same place I heard about it (swissmiss), I saw their mini lecture series, curated by swissmiss her self, the FREITAG am Donnerstag (Friday on Thursday), to celebrate their new REFERENCE Collection.

Is design passional or rational? A tasty conversation with Mário Mandacarú, Alexandre Duarte and Alexandra Sampaio Pássaro.

Wednesday, September the 8th at 18.00 PM sharp at NAD Design Café.

Late admissions will not go through the revolving door. Mobile phones must be switched off during the entire session. Blackberries will be thrown out of the window. Eating is not permitted. Talking is obliged. Popcorns are not included and we did not invite any star to distract you.

A gift bag was supposed to be included but the funds never reached our bank account. We offer a pin, though. A really nice one. You can sell it on EBAY afterwards.

Old Coke-Cola

Design is History (www.designishistory.com) it's a site developed and updated by designer Dominic Flask where you can find really good content about the history of design from the early ways of comunication, thru Early Typographers, Peter Behrens, De Stijl, Herbert Bayer, Swiss Design, to Wolff Olins, Sagmeister and Debbie Millman.

"As a designer it is important to understand where design came from, how it developed, and who shaped its evolution. The more exposure you have to past, current and future design trends, styles and designers, the larger your problem-solving toolkit. The larger your toolkit, the more effective of a designer you can be."

from www.designishistory.com

Thanks so much for the awesome post! Glad you liked the site.

This is doubtless the most productivity ever shown by a group of students standing within 5m of a beer carton.

BOXEL was created by some University of Applied Sciences students in Detmold over one week, tasked with the challenge of creating a summer pavilion in 1:1 scale. Apparently, the beer boxes are not merely stocked on top of one another, but "freely organized," with slats, screws and bracings holding it all together. This means they weren't just drunkenly piling boxes on top of each other, then.

One image is worth a thousand words", it is regularly said. Still, these images are far from being capable to reveal all the emotions one has when we are inside these two places: Vitra House, in Weil am Rhein (Germany), and Rolex Learning Center, in Lausanne (Switzerland).

Architecture is much more than matter, form or function; good architecture is more of what provokes in us, what causes emotion and what makes us to wish and desire more quality of life. Experiencing the architecture of these places, changes us.

I have enjoyed in particular the Rolex Learning Center, for its youth, irreverence, comfort, functionality, challenge, dynamic, light and for being politically incorrect.

How everything is so related to Nature. Enjoy this motion graphics collaboration between Elena Gallen and Tom Geraedts. It gives the visual atmospheric piece to set the mood for new fashion collection of Elena Gallen.

While I was "walking" around on my daily reference blogs I found this project, via { designvagabond }, and I just wonder how nice this would be at my backyard.

Each time I remember flying over The Governors Island I remember what a special place it is, so close do Manhattan, and so different. And thinking about this project, a sustainable design of Ann Ha and Behrang Behin, I remember also the 99% Conference in April, where the plans for the island were presented.

What a great way of using this fabulous place.

I can listen to Dieter Rams talking about anything for hours. However, from this new and fascinating seven minute video, I would like to focus on the quote above. Watch it in context, and enjoy:

I'd like also to add another quote from this video: Not outstanding design. Better design.

It's always great to ear people that look for the real meaning of design. Dieter is absolutely fantastic. What he did in his career will be respected forever.

BIG BANG BIG BOOM:
an unscientific point of view on the beginning and evolution of life ... and how it could probably end.
A very creative use of the city to exhibit art and criticism.

Alex Varanese, no stranger to retro gadget goodness, has decided to re-imagine 1977 as if today's modern gadgets spontaneously existed back then.

How many LPs could fit in your pocket back in this alternate reality? Easy:

A lot!

The spread of advertisements is part of a portfolio called alt/1977, and the gist is just that: An alternate 1977 where 21st century technology like iPods, portable gaming consoles and laptops have been suddenly sprung on a disbelieving populace.

Even the descriptions are spot-on, combining present day references mixed in with a time-traveler's wit. Hit the Behance link below for the full set. Behance

On show until the end of June at the solar declathlon expo in Barcelona, this Fab Lab house is already making waves due to the fact it can be built in 15 days and house a family of four.

Measuring 75 squared meters, it's the work of the Institut D'Arquitectura Avancada de Catalunya, who chose the odd paraboloid shape as they believed it was the perfect form for making the most of the sun's rays. As you will have noticed, the top is covered in solar panels, and thanks to the elevation from its three legs, the house should be cool in summer.

Rather than just a couple of concept pictures, IAAC has actually developed the project to the point where they can build the house for you, with the contact details located on their website. It's bound to be pricey, but as it's made from natural materials it's possibly one of the most eco-friendly abodes you could hope for.

For more detailed info you can check their own web site: http://www.fablabhouse.com/

or this extensive article: http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/9/view/10576/solar-powered-fab-lab-house.html

I found today, at a "must see everyday" website (Graphic-ExchanGE), this simple, almost basic, layout, that I really like.

I'd like this was mine...

This is a LoSiento design.

Tipografia e mancha de cor... A simplicidade fala por si, e neste caso fala muito bem. É mais um exemplo de que o suporte e a técnica de produção são essenciais na concepção do desenvolvimento criativo de um designer gráfico. O "packaging" faz todo o sentido lembra-me as caixas VHS.
